Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

Rachel Roy 2010 Spring/Summer Collection
The program notes for Roy's collection cited 40's screen legends as well as “70's chic” as the main reference points. Yet it was Roy’s reference to a “return to the power suit” that resonated most. Her variations on this look were a bit softer than the originals; the trousers were slim but had movement, and the jackets- some in tweed, others in matte crepe- were fitted close to the body. Done in silver and black, these pieces packed punch without seeming retro. Saint International continues to have a great season, as the likes of Sigail Currie, Sosheba Griffiths and Sheena Moulton all graced the runway.
