Campaigns, Spring/Summer 2010

Summer is here, and you know what that means- new ad campaigns! One of my fave things to do with the change of seasons, is to of course buy all the major fashion mags and gawk at all the campaigns. Some of my fave labels are hit (Givenchy) and miss (Balenciaga) this season, but hey, they're still pretty to look at. Here are a few of them.

From top to bottom: Balenciaga, Givenchy, Calvin Klein, Balmain Homme, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Dior Homme, Marc Jacobs, Lanvin

In March, she walked for Lanvin, Maison Martin Margiela, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, just to name a few. Now, she's scored a spot in the Benetton Spring/Summer campaign. Her name? Ajak Deng, from the Down Under. (Down Under isn't part of her name.)
I am so happy for this girl, not because she's black, or because she's friends with my friends, (can't wait to meet her!) but simply because she's so gorgeous! The tide of fashion is really changing, and i'm glad that there are girls like Ajak who are present and available to ride it all the way to the bank.
I scoured the net and found some of these images taken earlier in her career. Had to share 'em.

Definitely one to watch next season, I really hope that, as was the case with those before her, Benetton will serve as a stepping stone to even bigger and more amazing things! We love you, Ajak!!

Style Week Jamaica 2010

A huge presence in the world of international modeling, Saint International is responsible for the growth and development of the likes of Shena, Sosheba, Sigail et al. Every year, their top girls and guys return here to Jamaica for the fashion spectacle that is Style Week.
Better known to the general public for its last show, the ground-breaking Fashion Block, the model agency has, consistently over the last ten years, provided a platform for the best of local fashion designers and well-noted international designers to converge and celebrate fashion.
The shows kick off next week, and i'm yet to confirm venues etc, but i'm looking forward to what this year will bring; in the last few years, the likes of Kevin O' Brian and Eymeric Francois, both from Paris, have graced the runway with their dazzling couture. Who will wow us this time around?

UPDATE: Style Week, due to recent civil unrest in Jamaica's capital and the city's current State of Emergency, has been pushed back to July 9-11. Here's the schedule:
July 9- International Men's Collection at Devon House
Jul 10- International Mecca of Style at Fort Charles in Port Royal
July 11- Fashion Block in the streets of New Kingston
All shows begin at 9pm!

Vogue Italia, May 2010

It's a cause for celebration, really- supermodel Kylie Bax is back to her usual high-fashion antics! Photographed by Steven Klein, the black and white shots ably captures Kylie's larger-than-life-ness and notable sex appeal to her editorials. The acrobatic poses, expressive glances and sheer attitude that she brings to the table, remind me why she’s one of modeling’s true greats.

Lady Blue Shanghai

Starring the gorgeous Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard, and directed by acclaimed film-maker David Lynch, here is the short film, Dior's Lady Blue Shanghai.

Xtina for German GQ

No stranger to controversy (or nudity) vocal power-house Christina Aguilera poses completely naked on the cover of the latest GQ magazine.
For the June cover, the pop star and mother is wearing skin-tight over-the-knee Christian Louboutin boots and jewel-studded Gaspar gloves. In support of her new album entitled Bionic out June 8, the image, shot by Alix Malka, was apparently taken from the album artwork. Can't wait to see the other images.

Jeneil for i-D

So I know for us in the Caribbean, outside of GQ, Vogue, W, Bazaar and Elle, we really don't have much in the way of choice for fashion magazines. And while those mags are great, I for one prefer the more artistic, less commercial publications like V, Love, Vogue Italia and i-D. Speaking of i-D, i've had to have the last two issues shipped to me personally. It didn't cost an arm and a leg, but for some that might not be an option. Anywho, long story short, Jeneil Williams, my fab friend, is on one of the three covers of this season's i-D. I don't know what i'm gonna do to get this issue, but come hell or high water, I will. Peep the spread below; gorgeous.

I suppose for some, the nudity might be a shocker, but you know what? It's fashion, nudity is almost expected. In any case, the pictures are quite tasteful, they fit in with the mood of the styling and cinematography and the nudity itself doesn't seem like the point. They seem like a celebration of the female nude, moreso, a celebration of blackness. Go Jeneil, love ya!
