Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

Derek Lam 2010 Spring/Summer Collection
In his first showing at the tents, Derek Lam sent out a very appealing collection, one based on hoi polloi summer memories- Asbury Park, Coney Island, Key West... The motif made for an upbeat, breezy lineup, filled with snappy star prints, feisty colors and shiny dégradé florals intended to mimic the faded chintz of an old couch left outside for someone to claim.
Lam turned his summer lovin’ toward such reasonable fare as soft, work-day dresses; skirts and dresses with rounded front panels in substantive double crepe; strong outerwear pieces, and diverse corsetry, including a pair of deep-waisted trousers.
