Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

Matthew Ames 2010 Spring/Summer Collection
Ames, last year’s winner of the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award for new talent, said he wanted a "choreography" of colours and shapes for his spring collection (that included Sheena Moulton) shown in New York this afternoon. I'm not sure he achieved the colour part (most peices were graphic black-and-white), but the shapes he presented were interesting at the least- mixing architectural shapes in some places, a refined drape in others. From the perfect silk crepe T-shirt dresses and sculptural jackets to the draped jumpsuits disguised as dresses, this was minimalism done very well.
