Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

Raf Simons 2010 Spring/Summer Menswear Collection
Raf Simons is one of my fave designers simply because of his re-interpretation of menswear. By adding soft, quasi-feminine touches to shoes, shirts, bag and everything else, he unapologetically caters to the high-fashion man.
His latest menswear collection made full use of the high waist belt, wrapping it even around the necks of his models. The collection started out with well-fitted suits but quickly started to show its true intent- high-fashion. That meant plenty of stunning leather jackets, clinched waists, Balenciaga-like lamp-shade shapes... Despite all the seeming fussiness, there was a clean-ness to the collection reminiscent of Jil Sander, which isn't surprising- he's the creative director there.
Suffice it to say, I loved the belt motif and would love to see more of it.
