Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

CFW 2009: Shakad
Another collection that impressed me was that of the Shakad line. Designed by Shanika Burnett and incorporating African textiles, the collection was made up of pure Caribbean aesthetics- lots of bright colours, exoticism- and was impressively eco-friendly.
Made from mostly cotton, the collection had an a notable tie&dye motif, but in its use, managed to not be trite or simplistic.
