Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

Givenchy Fall 2011 Menswear
You could call designer Ricardo Tisci most anything, but "funny" doesn't readily jump to mind. Well, it seems things have changed a bit, judging from these 40-something looks for his recently-presented fall 2011 menswear collection for the house of Givenchy.
With some very Givenchy-esque prints, the usual gothic black and plenty of leather, Tisci seemed to have fallen in love with animals, dogs in particular; they were everywhere! Towards the end of the collection, there were some very well-tailored suits for the more conservative fashion lover amongst us, but my eyes were on those shorts and those shoes that laced entirely up to the knees. But as tailored as the pieces were, it was a collection that was almost entirely urban and completely modern and maximalist. Tisci, after all, is that designer who believes that couture need not be separated from everyday, and with his kind of superior vision, who are any of us to disagree?
