Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

BCBG Max Azria Fall/Winter 2011
For New York Fashion Week, designers Max and Lubov Azria debuted a collection full of an understated 70s chicness yesterday at Lincoln Center. It was a collection of easy one piece numbers cleverly constructed with geometric shapes that seemed to say one thing- we're through with minimalism.
Models walked slowly, showcasing gorgeous color-blocked turtlenecks, dresses and skirts.Hemlines were long, while taupe, chalk, and camel colors made billowing shapes through geometric patterns.
The simplicity of it all was falsely implied by light turtleneck bases, and printed fabrics with the most compelling of the looks being a camel-colored cape with fox fur collar. The carrot colored, v-neck dress was the best of a feminine warmth that was present throughout the collection.
