It feels like forever, but Riccardo Tisci has been at the head of Givenchy for some 5 years now. He hasn't always had great reviews with fashion editors, but he has certainly carved out a niche for himself in a fickle, unforgiving industry, while at the same time, pushing the label he spearheads to the cusp of relevant couture.
Take this, his Resort 2011 collection. All the usual Givenchy elements are here- structure, the masculine/feminine dichotomy, bold prints, lots of red, lots of black, a lil white, some religious elements thrown in, a lil sex, repressed or otherwise- and voila! we have another brilliant collection!
On paper, it sounds like same old-same old, but i'll be damned if these pieces don't all seem fresh, even by Tisci's unbelievably high standards.
Citing Frida Kahlo and her animal-filled paintings as a source of inspiration this season, it was lovely to see the leopard-print interspersed through-out the collection, too.
