Balenciaga Resort 2011

When they weren't ugly, I liked the interplay between prints in Balenciaga's resort collection. But my main grouse with these pieces, if you can call it a grouse, is that these don't quite look like clothes one would wear now. In fact, they look quite... dowdy... And that's not a word usually associated with the label.

Maybe it was the presentation of the clothes itself, but hardly anything jumped out at me here. That may be problematic as with consumers these days, most people won't necessarily buy something that doesn't speak to them right away. Here's to hoping Spring/Summer 2011 will see Ghesquière properly fleshing these ideas out, as he is ever so good at doing.
