Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

Francesco Scognamiglio Spring/Summer 2011
Lady Gaga is a huge fan. So too Rihanna. And judging from what was on show here for his 2011 Spring collection, it's obvious why.
Celebrating his tenth anniversary, the still-under-the-radar designer chose Milan's historic Loggia dei Mercanti as a venue, his models resembling high-class courtesans in ruffles and microscopic lace.
While, admittedly, it was hard to see how these theatrical creations would work for a civilian clientele, there was enough imagination and showmanship (as well as some nice, wearable pieces through-out) to suggest Scognamiglio might be a household name very soon.
