Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

Christian Dior Fall/Winter 2010 RTW
With his models looking like porcelain dolls, Jean-Paul Gaultier's collection for the house of Dior earlier today in Paris was fan-tas-tic.
Frills, leather dresses, leather thigh-high boots, plaid pants, woolen off-the-shoulder sweaters, jodhpurs- you name it, it was probably in there.
With its equestrian theme, it was the perfect and most sensible follow up to the house's acclaimed Couture show in January. Call it couture daywear, if you will. But with the cartoonish top-hats, I couldn't help but think that the collection may have also taken inspiration from Alice in Wonderland. (Tim Burton's version opens today in US theatres.)
