Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

The Skinny Tie
It's seemingly over-done, definitely ubiquitous, and most certainly fashionable- it's the skinny tie! Remember those huge ties worn by your dad or yourself to work or church? No? Me either! And thank you skinny tie for blasting those memories away! Nowadays, it's all about a slim, svelte look (even if you're not so, ahem, slim or svelte).
Made popular through pop icons like the Beatles at the end of the 50's (yes, the fricking BEATLES!!!) the tie is a summer essential, whether you are dining out, hitting the club or sitting front row at one of the season's fashion shows. Seen around the necks of such fashion-conscious celebs as Justin Timberlake, Zac Efron, David Beckham, and every other indie rock band, the skinny tie adds an interesting element to an outfit, just be careful to not always be seen in one (I will call no names).
