Given the times, a cruise show on a boardwalk snaking along the Venice Lido seems audacious. But so is Chanel's designer, Karl Lagerfeld. Still, Venice was one of founder, Coco Chanel's, fave places to vacation. Starting with a tableau of cloaked figures in tricorne hats (cover-ups for more feminine girdles and bras as bathing suits), the collection exploded into gondolier-inspired stripes, and playful swimwear. The star pieces were left towards the end of the collection- elegant gowns and suits, and frothy silk blouses.
