Fashion in Jamaica and the region exists, much to my annoyance, almost outside of an international aesthetic. It's my desire, then, to build a bridge between what is innately cultural, and the international industry, all the while highlighting trends and shifts within both spheres.

Rip the Runway
My choice for runway show for today is Roberto Cavalli's Spring/Summer 2009 Menswear. Not a bad collection by any stretch, I particularly like this collection for two things- 1) the runway is HUUUUGE! Sure, a smaller runway would have eliminated the models walking so sloppily as they do here, but I like when runways are big, especially wide, and 2) the progression of the collection itself from white to colours. If only our local designers would do this very same thing instead of going around in circles with their colours. The injection of the "fierce" female models, too, was an interesting element, whetting our appetites for their own show, of course. LOVING the huge white trousers!
